It's true! We are expecting baby #2 late this summer! We are so thrilled to be expanding our family to include another little munchkin!
We've known about the new little baby for a while, so I've been keeping a little journal of things I wanted to remember.
November 27: I took a home pregnancy test today and it was positive! I managed to keep it to myself for several hours until Michael got home. I told him Gene's going to be a big brother!

December 18: After a bit of bleeding, my obstetrician sent me to the lab to have some blood drawn. My HCG was 26,000 so I didn't need to have it redrawn in 48 hours. My progesterone was only 12.5, though. My doctor likes to see it above 15, so he put me on daily Prometrium (progesterone supplements). I have to take them until the end of my first trimester. Thankfully the bleeding stopped after the first dose.
December 21: My first prenatal appointment! My doctor had to run out and deliver a baby just before my appointment, so I saw his new Midwife. She did an ultrasound and we were able to see our little baby, including the heartbeat! This was a huge relief considering our scare earlier in the week.
Even though the midwife was really optimistic, I decided I wasn't comfortable telling our families at Christmas the next week.
January 11: Today was my second prenatal appointment. Michael wasn't able to leave work, but I wish he'd been there. The baby was waving its hands on the ultrasound screen like it was saying "Hi, Mama." It was the cutest thing ever! I also got my official due date today -- August 11, 2013!
I was really glad my doctor was there today because we were able to discuss my birth plan. I know, I know, it seems a little early right? I plan on attempting a VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarean), which my doctor fully supports. We discussed the kinds of things I should be doing now to increase my chances of being successful.
I'm still on the progesterone supplement for another two weeks, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel. Don't get me wrong, I'd take it ten times a day if I needed to, but I'll be glad that soon my placenta will be cranking it out instead.
I don't have another appointment until early February, at which time I'll be almost 14 weeks. We're probably going to spill the beans soon. I can't believe we've kept it to ourselves for this long!
January 11, Part 2: We called and told our parents the good news tonight!
January 12: I told my grandma this morning, so the rest of the world should know within a few hours. I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the news soon. :)
