I apologize for not having this posted yesterday as planned. As I was getting ready to write the post Monday night, there was a crisis {if you follow me on Twitter, you'll see what I've been tweeting about for the last two days} and we spent all day yesterday dealing with it. So here it is, week #4. A day late. After next Tuesday's post, you will have the directions to make a quilt from start to finish. If you've been keeping up, you'll have a completed quilt!
This week we will be quilting our basted layers together. This step can be as simple or intricate as you want, depending on how experienced you are. For the purpose of this QAL, I decided to do something simple. It's easy enough for even the least-experienced quilter to do.
The quilting is difficult to photograph, so I've created a fancy illustration for you to use.

It's really simple, right? Using the blocks as my guide, I stitched straight lines across the quilt approximately 1/4" from the block seams. I did this on each side, so each seam has stitching on each side. I did this on the width of the quilt as well as the length. All total you will sew 14 lines.
I find that it's best to start in the middle. That way, if there are any errors in your basting, you fix them from there. To get the entire quilt through the throat of the sewing machine, roll up the end that will be to the right of the needle. This quilt is small enough that you should not have any problems fitting it through.
Once you have completed all of the quilting, sew 1/4" from all four edges of the quilt.
If you haven't already, choose a fabric to use for the binding of your quilt. You'll need 1/2 yd. This is the only step standing between you and finishing your quilt!
