Gene -- One Month

Gene is one month old today!

One month.

Where in the world has the time gone?

Not only am I astonished that it's been an entire month since I gave birth, but also at just how much he's changed.

The day he was born, Gene had the typical 'I've-been-living-in-fluid-so-my-face-is-puffy' look.

The next day the swelling was going down, leaving my adorable baby boy.

But now?

Now I have a mini-man!

It's been a big month for little Gene.

We've been to the pediatrician four times thanks to his slow weight gain.  I don't have his official current weight, but hopefully we're around 8lbs.  We'll find out on Tuesday at his one month well child checkup.

Gene farts.  A lot.  He may not look like Mike or myself, but any baby that farts this much is very obviously related to my husband.

Gene is also starting to smile a little, though I can never get him to do so when I'm trying to take his picture.  He used to only smile when he slept, but now he'll show us little smiles when we talk to him.  The jury is still out as to whether or not he has Daddy's dimples.  His great-grandma Nona is anxiously waiting to hear the answer to that question.

Gene also found his voice over the last week.  Ohmyword.  His lungs have gotten quite the workout over the last week.  He no longer fusses, he just screams.

We moved Gene into the crib several nights ago.  I wasn't getting much sleep with him in the pack-n-play, so I decided to try out the crib.  Night #1 went SO well.  Gene slept well.  I slept well.  I was feeling so uplifted.  Night #2 went okay.  Night #3 was a complete failure.  On Night #4 I reevaluated things and decided to swaddle him.  It went well.  To make sure it wasn't a fluke, I swaddled him again on Night #5 with similar positive results.

Gene currently hates:
     -- Diaper changes
     -- Wardrobe changes
     -- Taking a bath
     -- Being put down

Gene currently loves:
     -- Eating
-- Being held by his Mama.  Constantly.

If he has changed this much in the first month of his life, I can't wait to see what happens in the second!

  1. This sounds like my daughter, and her 'wants to be held' has slowly gotten better as her vision has improved! Hang in there. I've found life goes much better if you pee as SOON as you realize you have to. Do not wait until the baby fusses, by then it's too late! Lol. Take care of yourself!

  3. He is so handsome and I can't believe it's been a month already! We saw your team win last night while we were eating dinner in St. Louis!

  4. He's adorable! Swaddling was a lifesaver for us. We swaddled Grace until she was 6 months old and that was the only way we could get any sleep! I hope you hear good news at the pediatrician today!
