5 Weeks

I can't believe it's been 5 weeks since little Gene came into this world! 

Somebody pinch me.

Gene had his 1 month Well Baby checkup on Tuesday of this week, where we received some very encouraging news.

He's gaining weight!!!

At his appointment 2 weeks ago, he only weighed 7lbs 6oz, an entire one-half pound below his birth weight.  At the recommendation of his pediatrician we were giving him a supplement.  Apparently the extra calories did the trick.  This week Gene weighed a whopping 8lbs 7.6oz!

Knowing he gained an entire pound in those two weeks was a huge weight off of my shoulders.  I've been really stressed out about it for the last month, feeling as though I was doing something wrong because he hadn't yet reached his birth weight.

Sleeping at night is going all right.  He wakes up every 2-3 hours at night to eat and generally goes back to sleep easily.  Some nights he still wakes himself up as soon as I get comfortable in my bed and cries.  Other nights he does really well.  I never know from one night to the next what to expect.

He does get pretty fussy in the evenings.  Part of me thinks it may be gas.  I'm not always able to get him to burp much after feedings.  If you have any magical remedies for getting rid of baby gas, please leave a comment down below.

Gene is still an excellent shopping companion.  We went to W-M on Monday to buy groceries for the week.  He slept while I shopped and woke up when we were in the line.  Since it was the week of Thanksgiving, shopping took significantly longer.  By the time we returned to the car, he was hungry and crying.

We are enjoying more and more smiles from our little guy, though I haven't been able to get any pictures of them yet.  It seriously melts my heart when he gives me one of his big, gummy smiles.  SO precious.

This kid is going to be ornery, I can already tell.  Of course, given who he's named after, I am not the least bit surprised.
