This week's topic is...
What are your Christmas traditions?
Growing up, we didn't have a lot of things we did year after year. We'd do something one year but not the next. There are a couple of things that stood out, though.
-- My younger brother and I were the only two grandchildren that lived in the same town as our grandparents. Each year we'd go over and help them decorate their tree. I loved seeing the familiar, handmade yarn ornaments. Unlike my parents, my grandparents let us cover their tree in icicles/tinsel, which was tons of fun.

-- We always had lunch on Christmas day at my grandparents' house with the rest of my mother's family.

Now that I'm a parent, there are so many holiday traditions that I want to start with our little guy. Here are just a few:
-- Cookies for Santa
-- Letters to Santa
-- Christmas Eve pajamas
-- Homemade gift for grandpas and grandmas (there are SO many of them!)
How about you? What are your holiday traditions?
How cool that you got to decorate your grandparents tree each year! My dad's parents lived out west, so my parents held as many traditions together as they could...but we would do alternating years with my mom's parents (locally) and my dad's parents.
ReplyDeleteNick and I have no Christmas traditions yet, but we can try. Last year we put all of our Christmas cards on the TV stand in the living room. We just got your card in the mail today, so the tradition continues... Maybe we'll get a tree this year to decorate. I did put up some white lights over the curtain rod in the room, so I'm trying to get in the holiday spirit.
ReplyDeletefun times with your family.. I do love traditions.. I am going to decorate with my little one today..
ReplyDeletereading the night before Christmas and the Christmas story from the bible out loud on Christmas eve. church on Christmas eve.
ReplyDeleteI love that tree! You know, I think growing up, we didn't even get to decorate our OWN tree! Now that I get to, I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWe did have traditions though - cinnamon rolls Christmas morning, Christmas Eve at mom's parent's, Christmas morning at home, Christmas Day with dad's parents. Things have changed now, but I loved those days!
