January 31

January 31, 2011 was a normal day.  It was my Monday off and I was planning to go to the grocery store to stock up before the huge ice and snow storm we were expecting later that week.

While at the store I bought a package of home pregnancy tests, not intending to open the box until the weekend.

On a whim, I decided to use one of the tests, not really thinking to what happens after you take it.

Several minutes later I remembered I had taken it and decided I should probably look at it.

Imagine my surprise when I saw two lines.  The first line was really faint, but I was certain it was there.

Over the next several minutes I ran around my house in a panic, searching for better light so that I could determine whether or not the line was actually there.

...and it was.

Now, I have always had this vision in my head of telling my husband we're expecting our first child.  It involved a nice dinner and a piece of baby paraphernalia with "I love Daddy" written on it somewhere.
As we all know, real life and fantasy are very different things.

I called my husband at work with what I am sure was a deer-in-the-headlights look on my face.  Here's how the conversation went:

Me: "Heeeeeeeeeeey...."
Hubs: "What's up?"
Me: "Sooo..... I think I'm pregnant."
Hubs: hahahaha "WHAT? Why do you think that?"
Me: "Because I took a home pregnancy test and two lines only show up if you're pregnant and there are two lines showing up on the test." (cue sobbing)
Hubs: "That's great! Are you excited?"
Me: sobbing "Yes.."
Hubs: "Then why are you crying?"
Me: "I... don't.... know..." sobbing

Over the next several days, I confirmed my initial home pregnancy test with several others, including a digital test.

  3. I took three tests when I found out ;). I was able to wait to tell Scott until he got home. I put a bun in the oven (we watched it on you tube before) and got him a bag of Daddy items for after he opened the oven. It was awesome and I wish I had a video camera back then.
