Happy Thanksgiving!

Pin It Now!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to spend it surrounded by those that you love.

I wasn't able to be with my family today, but I'm blessed to have a wonderful work family that I was with today (yes, I worked).  I will, however, get to see my family this weekend, which I am looking forward to.

Here's a little turkey day humor for your enjoyment (not my work):

May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

I'm Sick

Pin It Now!
If you're friends with me on facebook or follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed my occasional mention of being sick.

I'm on Day 8 of a nasty cold.

Days 1-4 weren't too bad.  I had a sore throat and a headache.  So long as I took ibuprofen every four hours, I was fine.

On Day 5 I woke up and went between having a stuffy nose and not being able to breathe to spending my time with a box of Kleenex.  This is still going on.

As I went to bed on Day 6 (Monday), I began to cough.  In fact, I coughed so much that I barely slept.  I felt like such garbage on Day 7 that I called in to work (which I very rarely do).

I was really hoping to have kicked this virus by now.  It's been a week, it is more than welcome to die now.

Of course, things don't work that way.

You see, today a new symptom has emerged.

I'VE LOST MY VOICE.

Let me specify... I've lost the ability to make vowel sounds due to inflammation of the vocal chords.  I can make the sounds for the letters F, S, and T at a normal tone because those letters only require air and the lips (the letter F) or the tongue (the letters S and T).  The rest of the letters?  Not so much.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am, by nature, a chatty person, so losing my voice is pretty rough.

Looks like it's going to be a pretty quiet day for me...

Lessons in Mopping

Pin It Now!
If you ignore your kitchen floors, the grimy old linoleum will become even more grimy.

When you finally take the time to notice said grimy old linoleum, a Swiffer wet mop will not do the trick.

When you realize that your Swiffer isn't going to cut it, you'll have to resort to an actual mop and bucket.

And, because your floors are grimy and old, even your mop and bucket will not do the trick.

So, after exhausting those options, you will realize that you are going to have to scrub your kitchen floor on your hands and knees.

And while you'd rather put it off until tomorrow, you get out your bottle of cleaner, scrub brush, and get to work.

Then cry because you have to wait for the floor to dry before you can have that bowl of Raisin Bran.

And you promise to mop again on Wednesday so you don't have to go through so much next time.

Happy birthday, Penelope!

You're 3 years old today!!!  My, how time has flown by.  You are sassy, spunky dog and you never hesitate to talk back.

I See the Light at the End of the Tunnel

Pin It Now!
I can see it.  I can see the end of the semester barreling toward me at a break-neck speed.

I welcome it with open arms.

I am sick and tired of being so busy.  I am tired of working two jobs and going to school.  I am sick of the up and down of the weather pattern (stay cold already!).

Sorry for the whining.  Since my last post, here's what has happened:

-- October 29 -- Happy birthday to my father-in-law!

-- October 30 -- Happy 2nd birthday to our fur-baby, Wally!

-- November 6 -- Happy birthday to my mother-in-law AND my nephew!

-- November 8 -- State arrived for our annual survey

The last one just happened yesterday.  They picked the perfect (sarcasm) day for it.  We were a bit understaffed.  I'm fine with them being there, but it makes the nurses and administrators jumpy and high-strung.  I'll be glad to see them leave.

I have a few craft projects that I'm working on and will hopefully post a few current things on my other blog here in the next few days.

Is it December yet?  Not to wish the year away, but I could definitely use a break...
