Bad News

I have some bad news.

I did not get into nursing school this semester.

I'm okay about it.

I received my letter October 22nd.  I'm on the alternate list.  They only accept something like 20 students.  If, for any reason, those students can't start the program in January, they will begin to offer spaces to the alternates.

So I guess there is still a one-in-a-million shot that I will start nursing school in January.

I'm going to be honest, I was pretty upset when I read my letter.  Within 24 hours, I found out that two of my friends got into the program.  I am happy for them, but it still hurt a little to hear it.

Now, though, I am a-OK.  I am already looking at next semester's application deadlines and am planning accordingly.  I'm not going to let one little bump in the road stop me from becoming a nurse.

Snuggle Buddy

I just love waking up next to this sweet face each morning...

...though I could do without the morning breath!

Headphone Blues

Did you know that you can buy a discman for $9.54?  I remember begging for one of these in the 5th grade so that I could listen to my Savage Garden CD in the car.  I want to say they were around $50 at that point and that was 1997.

Anyway, that's not the point of this post.  This post is about headphones.

Anyone use Apple products?  iPods? iPhones?  Anyone use the ear buds that came with them?  Does anyone actually like them?  Whose ears were those created to fit?

Because let me tell you, they weren't thinking of my ears when they designed those.

They fit terribly and fall out of my ears while I'm sitting still.  How am I supposed to exercise safely if I spend all of my time attempting to shove them back in my ears?

So I'm considering a change.  I love my Apple products, but I think I'm going to have to break up with their ear buds.  I don't have the space to carry around something that fits over my ears, but I am shopping around for a pair that fit down into the ear canal.  I need something that is going to stay put.  If you have Apple ear buds and they stay in place, you're just trying to make me feel bad.  The only creatures that like my ear buds are my dogs.  I think they've gone through at least three pair now.

Any recommendations?

Craft Blog

I've decided to dabble in the world of craft blogging.  I'm not sure why and I'm not sure how long it will last, but it's there.  It's hideous right now, so feel free to wait a couple of weeks until I tell you about it again, at which point it will hopefully be glorious and grand.

Since I'm in school and sewing, knitting, photography, etc. have sort of taken a backseat lately, these first few weeks will likely feature projects from the past, starting with my first quilt made back in late 2005.

If you're interested in experiencing my crafty blog journey from the get-go, feel free to head over to Stitches & Purls now.  The first project post will go up early Thursday morning.

Thank you for all of your support.  I'll still post about sewing here, but I'll likely direct you to my other blog for full details.  This site will still follow my daily adventures with the elderly, being a non-traditional student, and my constant struggle with my weight.

I Know, I Know...

Yes, I am a super slacker... at least as far as this blog is concerned.

There is a lot going on lately.  Not only do I have school and my job as a CNA, but I also have a second job.

Second job?

I only work eight hours or so a week.  I am employed by the college I go to as a tutor in learning accommodation services.  I am tutoring a couple of biology students.  Exciting stuff, right?  It'll be nice having that extra cash come the holiday season.

I haven't been doing much sewing lately, which bums me out, but I have a couple of projects I'm ready to start.

I also have a potential upcoming craft project involving watercolor.  We'll see how it goes...
