It's SO Early!

Pin It Now!
Guess who woke up at 5:30 this morning?

I know, I'm shocked, too.  5:30AM is still the middle of the night.  However, I took the hubster to work this morning.  When I got home, I tossed a load of laundry into the washing machine and decided I needed to stay up and put it into the dryer.

Since I was staying up, I had a burst of energy and decided to clean the kitchen.

Which lead me to clean the dining room.

Then I mopped the floors in both rooms.

My book list for summer school is printed out.

...and I also worked on my quilt a little.

WHEW!  I am pooped.

If you follow me on Twitter, you saw the obscene number of tweets I posted this morning.

As busy as I've stayed this morning, I still have plenty to do this afternoon.  I am picking up the hubs from work and we're heading to the college to pick up my books for the summer.  He's heading to Missouri for the weekend, but it's my weekend to work, so I'll still be here.

Sorry for the disjointed rambling, I'm still sleepy!

My Afternoon

Pin It Now! Here's how I spent my afternoon:

I've been working on this quilt on and off for a couple of months now. The top is probably 1/3 of the way finished. I can't wait until it's finished!

Back to School!

Pin It Now!
Summer classes start two weeks from today!!!

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to classes.  Sure, it's probably going to be 8 weeks of torture in the name of education, but it will be worth it.

Two years ago, Mike and I moved from Missouri to Illinois.  He had just finished his degree, but I still had a few classes left to take.  Since we were getting married, I made the choice to put school on hold for a while.

As time went by, I began to feel bad about not completing my education.  I was working a retail job, isn't a college education supposed to save you from that?  [the answer to that question, by the way, is no]

Then I decided a year ago that I wanted to go to nursing school.  After speaking with someone at the local community college and discussing the boat-load of hoops I was going to have to jump through in order to apply, I quickly took the first step and tested for the CNA class, which I took in October and November.

I still have a few classes I have to take before I can apply for the RN program, which is what I am working on right now.

So today I drove across town to pay tuition for my summer classes.  I am officially a broke college student, but at least I'm happy about it.

I quickly sent my husband a text about paying for classes and here's the conversation we had:

Me: "Glad I'm going back to school.  Tired of feeling like a Big. Fat. Failure."

Hubs: "U r not a failure"

Me: "I feel like one."

Hubs: "You know how u said u were bragging about all my accomplishments?"

Me: "Yes"

Hubs: "I could only think of 4 or 5... Eagle Scout, Engineering degree, CAT job, & marrying u!  I love you."

Me: "Aww... I love you too."

Isn't that sweet?  Nothing like a text message pep talk from the one you love to make you feel better!

He Said, She Said

Pin It Now!
Me: "Hey, sweety... did you, by chance, use mouthwash and spit it into the toilet while you were peeing?"

Husband: "Huh?  I don't know what you're talking about.."

Me: "Yes you do.  Did you spit mouthwash in the toilet?"

Husband: "Why do you ask?" [giggle giggle giggle]

Me: "Well if you didn't, we should probably go to the emergency room, because my urine is blue."

Husband: [hahahahahAHAHAHahahaHa] "Okay, I spit mouthwash into the toilet while I peed."

Me: "Whew!  Thank goodness!  Don't do that ever again!"

Two Years Ago: Part 3

Pin It Now!
If you haven't noticed by now, two years ago this week was a busy one for us.  Actually, 2008 was a busy year in general.  Mike graduated from college, we exchanged vows, and we moved 350 miles from our hometown.

We woke up on the morning of May 18th [I was going on four, maybe five hours of sleep], drove an hour and a half to our apartment in our college town, packed up the U-Haul, and continued heading east.

Fortunately for us, we were making the big move alone.  Our dads were kind enough to come along [we needed all the muscles we could get!].  Our caravan consisted of me in the front [still not sure whose brilliant idea this was], my dad, Mike, and the U-Haul.

We made good time and arrived in our new city mid-afternoon.  We quickly unloaded everything from the truck into our apartment and left to get some dinner at Olive Garden.

Our dads left after that and we started to get settled in.  All we did that first night was put sheets on the bed, and make a path to plug the television in.  We were exhausted.

The next afternoon, Mike had to travel north for training for work, leaving me to unpack the apartment on my own.  I'm sure it was nice for my then-fiance to return home to a clean, unpacked apartment.

So there you have it.  The first crazy weekend of 2008.  I hope you've enjoyed the photos!

Two Years Ago: Part 1

Pin It Now!
Two years ago today, my husband walked across a stage to receive a piece of paper he worked very hard for.

After five years of late night studying, hours in class, and having a hot girlfriend [me] proofread his papers, Michael received a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri on May 16, 2008.

I'm still so proud of you, babe!

PS -- I miss this beautiful place.

A Clean Room is a Happy Room

Pin It Now! Our house has three bedrooms -- our room, a guest room, and a third bedroom/sewing room/office.  Here's what it looked like when we moved in:

It is currently an ugly peach color that really needs to go, but I'm not sure what color to do in there instead.  Any thoughts?  Ideas?  Bueller?

When we remodeled our bathroom [which I know I have yet to show you pictures of -- sorry!], the third bedroom became sort of a catch-all room for anything and everything that we needed to get out of the way.  Now, I'm sort of shocked that I'm going to show you this [my husband will have a stroke when he sees this], but I'm all about being honest and want you to know how much progress has been made.  Here's what it looked like Tuesday afternoon when I started cleaning:

This is looking straight in from the door.  A lot of the stuff on the floor is tools and such from the bathroom remodel.  The big white table is my sewing table that I bought last summer.

Those boxes you see?  Those are from when we moved in.  It's stuff that we don't use that we never unpacked.  The white drawer thing has a lot of office supplies.  This is where my fancy-schmancy computer table used to be.  And by computer table I mean 4' plastic folding table.  Yes, I am that classy.

Here's looking toward the closet.  On the right is the old bi-fold door for our linen closet and our bathroom door, which has since been put back on, thanks to yours truly.  The box on the left is trash that needs to be taken out.  It's actually still sitting in the clean room, but that's because I could barely move by the time I got to that area.

Whew!  That's enough of that mess.  Here's the room now:

Here's where the exercise ball used to be.  The black mass on the right is a garbage bag ready to go outside.  The top right corner is where my desk will go when we finally get around to buying one.  I've picked it out, but we haven't been to the store to pick it up.  Just a hint, the store it's located at rhymes with schm-ikea.

Here's looking back toward the closet.  Oh, and there's my wonderful assistant, Penelope.  She was oh-so helpful during the entire process.  She can lay in a tiny spot of sunshine like it is nobody's business.  And when I was in so much pain I lay myself on the floor, she was there giving me kisses, letting me know she was there for me.  Oh yeah, she's got my back.

I really want to look under the carpet, but Michael says no.  I know that there is hardwood under that ugly Berber, but I'm not sure what condition it's in.  We've talked about getting a comfy chair for the corner in the picture above to have sort of a reading area.  It still needs a little bit of a face-lift.  A new paint color would be fabulous, as well as a new light fixture.  Because of where it's located, we can't put in a ceiling fan, but the brass light has got to go.

Anyway, I guess there's a little tour of Bedroom #3.  Maybe one of these days you'll get to see the rest of the house!

Happy House-a-versary!

Pin It Now!
We closed on our bungalow one year ago today!  Our lease at our apartment wasn't up until the end of May, but when the hubster said something about moving in slowly, I told him I would be sleeping on the floor at our new place if I had to.

I love our house!

What Were They Thinking?

Pin It Now!
When I am especially bored, I like to shop online for houses in different cities that I could never afford.  It's always interesting to see inside other people's homes.

However, there are things that you should never post on the Internet if you're trying to sell your house.

This is one of those things...

What's wrong with this picture?  WHY is there a carousel horse in that window?  You know they put that opening there specifically for that horse.

I Can't Move

Pin It Now!
Sorry I've been such a bad blogger lately.  I have unsuccessfully been trying to relax since Saturday.

What happened?

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed a lot of boo-hoo posts on Saturday.  An hour into my shift, I managed to pinch a nerve in my back and could barely bend over the rest of my shift.  It made for a very long evening.

I took more Tylenol in 36 hours than I've probably taken in the last six months [I don't like to take medicine unless I absolutely have to].  I was in so much pain when I got home at 11:30 that night that I took two Tylenol PM in hopes of sleeping through the pain.  I also dug out my heating pad and went to bed.

Of course, that's when I realized that I was still wearing my contact lenses.  I nearly cried when I got myself out of bed to take them out.  It was terrible.

My back is 437X better now, but still hurts a little at the end of the day, especially if I do too much.

Like on Tuesday.

It was my day off, so I did a bunch of work in the yard and cleaned out the third bedroom.  By the end of the day I could barely move.

I talked to a physical therapist at work and he gave me exercises to help with the pain.  The stretches are really helpful.

I'm off this weekend, so I'm hoping to be good as new after a couple of days away from work!
