Here's the first post I ever made on my blog. It's the story of how the Mr. and I became engaged. I just added the photos today since I hadn't figured it out when I originally made this post.
From November 25, 2007:
"Greetings and salutations!
As this is going to be a blog pertaining to the planning and execution of my wedding day, I thought it only appropriate to tell the story of our engagement. I love these kinds of stories, so I can only imagine that there are others out there in cyberspace who feel the same. Without further ado, I take you back to Wednesday, February 7, 2007...
Wednesday after classes, MC told me that he was going to be at the library all evening working on some engineering homework. This was fine with me, as I was going to my Eta Sigma Phi meeting at 7PM. Around 5PM I decided to shower and trim my bangs before heading off to my meeting.
Near the end of my meeting I noticed that I had a few missed calls from MC on my phone. Knowing I'd told him I was heading to my meeting, I wondered if something were wrong. I rushed home after the meeting, only to discover he wasn't home. He had apparently been there, though. The shower curtain was open (a pet peeve of mine), so I knew he'd been there to shower. I called his cell phone to see what he'd wanted. Here's how the conversation went (though, obviously, this is not verbatim):
MC: "Where are you??"
Me: "Uh, the apartment, where are you?"
MC: "I'm on my way back to the apartment... I bought you a Valentine's Day present."
Me: "I thought we weren't buying gifts this year? I only bought you a card with a monkey on it!"
MC: "I bought you a jewelery box."
Me: "What made you buy that?"
MC: "I saw it in an ad for a jewelery store."
Me: "What were you doing at a jewelery store?"
MC: "I dunno... Oh, and I was thinking, I think we should wait another year before we get engaged." (We'd discussed getting engaged in August 07 earlier that week)
Me: "No! I don't want to wait another year to get engaged!" (at this point I still had no idea what was going on)
MC: "Okay fine."
A couple of minutes later, MC came in the front door and ran for the kitchen (I later discovered it was to ditch the bag). He came into the living room and handed me a beautiful blue box with Greek women on the top (I'm a Classics major, the box was awesome!). I was so excited about the cardboard box that MC had to tell me to open the box. Inside was a gorgeous, blue and white bone china jar. I reached in to pull it out, but only got the lid. It was at this time that I saw there was a ring in the jar. I seriously sat staring at the ring for a whole two seconds, wondering why on earth there was already a ring in the jar. It was then that I noticed out of the corner of my eye that MC was getting down on one knee. It finally dawned on me that he was going to ask me to marry him! Rather than go on and on with some rehearsed speech, MC simply told me how much he loved me and asked me if I'd marry him. I said yes and immediately started crying (I'm emotional).
We knew we had to tell my parents before we told anyone else, but wanted to do it in person. We were already planning on visiting three days later for my grandfather's 75th birthday party (we became engaged on his birthday), so we decided to do it at that time. However, I became a little impatient. I really wanted to tell my best friend. We called my parents at 10PM on Friday and told them the big news.
Well that's it. That's the exciting story of how MC and I became a betrothed couple. It was simple, sweet, and I was completely taken by surprise -- exactly what I'd wanted."
