I am going to share something kind of embarrassing.
We moved into our house in May 2009. It is now January 2010. Eight months have passed since we moved in.
In that time, I have found myself incredibly frustrated when attempting to vacuum the carpet. In our living room, we have hideous, Berber carpet. It's ugly. Really ugly. But that's not the point. Every single time I'd try to vacuum, no matter what setting I had it on, it would make horrible sounds and wouldn't suck up dirt and dust.
So basically, my house hasn't had a good vacuum since before we moved in.
Gross, I know.
Today, however, I did something about it.
Armed with a phillips screwdriver, I took my vacuum cleaner apart.
I quickly discovered that the hose between the brush and the debris container was completely clogged up, which would explain why it wasn't picking up dust bunnies. I finally got it cleaned out and moved onto the next hose. It was a pain in the backside to clean out. I had to use a broom handle to get the clog out. I worked on the vacuum cleaner for almost an hour.
It was so worth it, though.
I then spent the next 30 minutes vacuuming my little heart out in the living room. I went along the baseboards, the sofa, got the cobwebs from the radiators in the room, and even did the bottom half of the stairs.
The living room still needs work, but it's coming along nicely. It feels so nice to have my vacuum cleaner in proper working order.
So yes, I am a domestic diva failure. But not for long!
LOL...we had to do the SAME thing after we took our christmas tree down..lol..I was like why isn't it sucking!..well..I was saying that as my hubs that had no clue swept..lol!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got that fixed!
Our vaccum does that all the time which is why I hate it. I hate having to clean it out. I keep telling hubby I need a Dyson so I won't have clean it out!
ReplyDeleteI am happy it is something you could fix at home! We had to send ours out to get fixed. Meh. Love clean carpet though :)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call if failure if you got it fixed!!
ReplyDeleteOur vacuum cleaner "dies" fairly frequently. With two dogs and two messy people (a contractor husband and me, who's always bringing in dirt from the barn), it gets used almost every day! I've had to take it apart a few times just like you did lol. Glad everything worked out!
ReplyDeleteI love vacuuming but I think ours is seeing the end of it's life.
