As I mentioned in yesterday's post, we were involved in a minor car accident yesterday.
We were driving east through an intersection that had been green for several seconds. Half-way through, the Mr. noticed a silver car coming from the south at a fairly high rate of speed. Realizing that they were plowing through the red light, he pushed on the gas in an attempt to get out of the way.
Obviously she still managed to hit us.
After the impact, we looked back to see the silver car driving away. The Mr. wasn't having that, so he turned around and followed the car until it stopped.
The woman who hit us was 86 years old. I felt bad for her, but we still called the police. She wasn't happy about that. She was ready to just go on her merry way. Her car had no damage. Her license plate was ripped off, but she wasn't concerned about it. She didn't seem all that concerned about our bumper hanging from the back of our car.
She did receive a ticket after she admitted that she ran through the red light. She tried to get the officer to let it slide. She also didn't like hearing us tell him that she didn't seem to have any intention of stopping. We were several blocks north of where the accident actually occurred.
What a crummy way to end 2009! This isn't the only adventure our car has been involved in this week, but I'll talk about that when I post about Christmas. Hopefully we can get a new bumper soon and put this behind us.

good grief!
ReplyDeleteIt's disturbing that she was so nonchalant about it. I am surprised you even got her to stop! What an idiot. It sounds like you really kept your cool - not sure if I would have been able to do that!
ReplyDeleteWowser!! Your bumper looks like a crooked smile. Sorry, but I'm trying to find some sort of humor here.
ReplyDeleteWow, at first I really felt bad for the old lady - I mean.... it just sucks getting old and it sounds like it seriously might be time for her to get off the road.
ReplyDeleteBut then to make light of it and act like she couldn't have caused SERIOUS harm... well, that's pretty damn unforgivable.
Your poor bumper - that looks awful!! Prayers that it's not too big of a hassle to get fixed up quickly!!
Ugh...that sucks girl but I'm glad your hubby went after her.
ReplyDeleteOh my word. I can't believe that lady! I agree with the posts that say she should probably get her booty off the road.
