Today we received our first wedding gifts by mail! I knew last Friday that they were being shipped to us and found out on Saturday that they were two place settings of our Fiesta dishes from a card that we got in the mail. They were delivered yesterday afternoon while we were out for a drive to the office at our apartment complex, so I picked them up this morning. I opened the shipping box and saw that they were gift-wrapped. As much as I love presents, I decided that I was going to wait until Michael gets home this afternoon before opening them.
That quickly changed. As I was taking the gifts out of the shipping box, I heard a sickening sound. One of the place settings was broken. I figured it was the handle of the coffee mug.
I was wrong.
I went ahead and opened the one I knew was broken. Out of the five place settings, three of the pieces were destroyed -- the mug handle, the bowl, and the saucer. The salad and dinner plates were fine, but our five piece place setting is in approximately fifteen pieces.
So now I'm just waiting for the Dillards at Columbia Mall to call me back and let me know when to expect a new setting to be shipped to me. I would love to just drive to the store and exchange it, but the nearest store is 100 miles away in the Saint Louis area.
I didn't open the other one. After some gentle shaking, it doesn't sound broken, so I'm saving it for Michael to open.
Update: I just got off of the phone with the customer service woman at the Dillards in Columbia where the dishes were shipped from. She said since I have a gift registry and am obviously a customer of theirs, they're going to ship me a new set and that I can just throw the broken set in the trash.
